On this site you will find examples of Jim's work, along with information on the artist, details of exhibitions and further news updates.

Jim studied Art and Architecture at Glasgow and Strathclyde University. Jim has designed many major buildings in Central Scotland including the Strathclde Fire Brigade, which was opened by Her Majesty the Queen. Jim has also designed numerous schools, sports centers, old folks homes and public buildings.

In many ways Jim's paintings reveal the mind of an architect. The compositions show a strong sense of structure and design, every space in the canvas is worked to achieve an equilibrium with the whole. Bold colors and unifying forms are further enhanced by natural technical ability, precise brush strokes and an eye for detail.

Alot of Jim's work is influenced by his surroundings, again the architect is revealed. Jim draws inspiration from the rolling hills surrounding his home town, the Mediterranean skies and cliffs of his Spanish hideaway and from various studies of nature. It might be said that Jim is striving not to show the power and beauty of nature, but the power and beauty that flows through, and shapes nature. It could be said that Jim is trying to illuminate the metaphysical by studying and abstracting the physical.

Jim's paintings present themselves as glowing jewels that light up the room in which they are placed, like windows into a bright metaphysical world, Jim's painting are unique, energized and enlightened.
